Pomegranates: The Fruit of Paradise

It's pomegranate season, and this fruit is known as the "Fruit of Paradise" for good reason. It boasts a multitude of health benefits, from heart health to female reproductive support, but today we will focus on its skin nourishing abilities.

Pomegranates contain high levels of antioxidants which protect against sun damage, promote anti-aging activity, decrease melasma production (hyperpigmentation), and naturally brightens the skin.

Being very rich in vitamin C means pomegranates can boast skin regeneration properties, as well as supporting collagen, a key player in keeping skin tight and smooth. In other words they promote more youthful skin!

Their anti-inflammatory capabilities make pomegranates useful in treating acne, and the oil from the seeds has a small molecular structure allowing it to penetrate into the skin easily. The oil provides deep hydration and improves skin texture. The juice is hydrating as well, but being concentrated with the sugars should be consumed in small amounts.

It is easy to see why the pomegranate is associated with paradise. It is one of the top foods for skin health both topically and as a part of your diet. I recommend consuming the seeds (arils) with yogurt, in a smoothie, sprinkle them over a salad, or just eat them by the spoonful! The juice blends nicely into a smoothie.

Organic skin care products with pomegranate as an ingredient are a great choice as well.

ENHANCE: GLOW BOOST from the Spa Drs. skincare line contains pomegranate seed oil to help enhance your glow. It is a key ingredient because: "It helps restore and repair skin, evens skin tone, mops up free radicals and helps maintain collagen integrity."

Now is the best time of year to enjoy them!

This recipe is from the book "Clean Skin From Within" by Dr Cates "The Spa Dr."

Pomegranate and Vitamin E Exfoliant

In blender, process the pomegranate seeds until smooth. Add honey and pierce the capsule to release the liquid into the blender as well. Blend thoroughly. Massage over your face and leave on for 2 to 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
